Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has urged his team to bounce back this week when they travel to Manchester City, and may start http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emmanuel-Adebayor-c12526 against his former club.
Spurs lost to Wigan at White Hart Lane in a shocking 0-1 score line this past Saturday, which really flatters the home side more than anything else.
Tottenham looked second best all evening, and failed to dictate the game and impose themselves on the visitors.
They lacked their usual fluidity and urgency, and struggled throughout the 90 minutes to cope with Wigan’s effectiveness and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Martinez’s 3-4-3 formation.
The players looked fresh out of ideas, and Tottenham hardly created any chances in the game. Overall, it was a poor and dismal performance, and one which Villas-Boas would like to forget about as quickly as possible.
The fans were very discontent by the team’s showing, and voiced their unhappiness by booing the team off the pitch after the final whistle.
There had been another incident during the game which sent the home crowd into a frenzy of resentment. After Ben Watson’s second half strike, Villas-Boas substituted the in-form http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermain-Defoe-c18359 for Emmanuel Adebayor, who is yet to make a start for the club.
The decision was met with general disapproval as echoes of boos rang around the stadium. Defoe was also not pleased at being taken off, and stormed straight towards the tunnel. Villas-Boas was disappointed by the result, and his team’s performance.
The manager was also let down by Defoe’s reaction, but was not concerned and is more focused on this weekend’s important away game. Despite struggling with fitness and injuries, Adebayor is expected to start against his former club. Speaking about the player,
Villas-Boas said:
“We're quite happy with his attitude. He had an injury which took him out for six games and then another injury took him out for two games. We have the injury records if you want to look at them."
"In the games when he was available he showed the quality striker that he is. We have no doubts whatsoever. We have him fit now and hopefully ready for the next upcoming games. We know his ability."
