Adebayor will fight for place
Emanuel Adebayor says he has no intention of leaving Manchester City and wants to be the club's main striker next season.
Rumours have been constantly circulating that a lot of City players will be heading for the exit because of the number of players that have been brought in during the current transfer window.
Adebayor missed the back end of last season due to injury and he says that he will fight to be the number one attacking player at the club next season. There will be a huge amount of pressure on his shoulders but he seems up for the challenge.
The problem is that a squad rotation policy will have to be used at Manchester City if the club are going to keep all of their players happy. There are now five or six strikers at the club who could all do a job in the Premier League and they will all want to play.
Problems
The main problem in Adebayor's quest to be the main striker at Manchester City is that there is no chance he will get an extended run in the side. The moment he has two bad games in succession, he will be out of the team and someone else will come in.
There are other strikers at the club who are in better form and played well at the World Cup. Carlos Tevez will probably consider himself the most important player currently at the club and many others will agree.
There is more pressure on City this season than ever before. This means that Adebayor will probably be under more pressure than ever before and he does not always react well to pressure.
He said: "If you're not at the top of your game, you're going to be sitting on the bench. I understand that, that's normal at a good team. I'm always motivated when I go out on the pitch. We love playing football and we have to be ready for the challenge."
Friction
Friction will now have been created through Adebayor's comments. There will be a few players at City who will be thinking the same things but do not like to speak openly in the media.
When they see another player saying that he intends to start and play in every game then it will only raise their performance levels and this will result in friction between the squad.
Remember that there is still a little bit of time left during the pre-season campaign and the current transfer window. This will give the club a chance to get rid of some excess playing staff to ensure that squad harmony is not damaged.
Adebayor added: "A lot of good players are coming in but I still want to be the No.1 striker and that is what I am trying to do. They are bringing good players into this club and we have to put our spirits together to manage to win something."
Advice
It's very difficult at this moment in time to predict the type of Manchester City that you are going to get this season. The best option is to wait until the season starts and you can then see who the manager wants in his starting team and if they are playing well enough to push the club towards success.
Adebayor will be hard pushed to be the top scorer in the Premier League because he's not likely to get the run of games he needs to do so. Tevez will be the better bet with this option but Adebayor will always be good enough to score a goal against any club in any game.
