Adeiny Hechavarria helps Toronto Blue Jays stun New York Yankees 8-7 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays stunned the New York Yankees 8-7 at Yankee Stadium in New York on Monday, August 27 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
It was an amazing game of baseball as both teams fought hard for supremacy. Blue Jays, who have struggled to win games on consistent basis after the All Star Break, showed great composure and determination to prevail at Yankees’ home ballpark.
Starting pitcher Henderson Alvarez had a testing time on the mound as he gave up five hits and four runs in just over three innings. But relief pitchers Aaron Laffey, Steve Delabar, Aaron Loup and Casey Janssen combined to bring the Blue Jays back into the
contest. Darren Oliver grabbed his first win of the season after he pitched two perfect innings to hold off New York.
Adam Lind homered to centre in the second inning to put Toronto on the board but the Yankees responded fiercely to take a 4-1 lead in the fourth. Yorvit Torrealba, Adeiny Hechavarria and Colby Rasmus also hit home-runs to help their team comeback from behind
to clinch a thrilling victory.
"Great instincts," Farrell said of Oliver.
"Real pleased with the way guys competed all the way through," Blue Jays’ manager John Farrell said. "We didn't roll over and we kept coming at them. ... These are those games, in the 11th inning on the road you win it. Sometimes if they go the other way
they can almost feel like two losses."
"When you come here to play in Yankee Stadium, man, anything can happen. I think everybody knows that," reliever Darren Oliver said in a post game interview.
Credit should be given to the Manager John Farrell for leading his team and taking them out of a slump in an emphatic fashion. Farrell and company may be out of the playoff race, they certainly have the capacity to beat even the best in the business. It
will be interesting to see if the Blue Jays can maintain their excellent form in Game 2 and Game 3 to secure a rare series sweep at Yankee Stadium.
