Apparently the South Australian Cricket Association has said the crowd of 8,258 that showed up at the Adelaide Oval to watch Australia thump the West Indies was a good one given the match was played midweek and in hot conditions. Is this why the crowds really stayed away?

The MCG match that preceded this one showed just what a non-contest the series was poised to become, so that probably played a bigger part in fans’ decisions to stay away. And it’s another worrying sign regarding the popularity and ongoing viability of ODI cricket.
