Adelaide Rugby Sevens World Series gets underway as New Zealand wins opener
Adelaide Rugby Seven World Series is underway in Australia and New Zealand has won the opener against the Wales.
New Zealand started the tournament with comprehensive victory as they overcame the Wales by 36-10. Rugby Sevens Series is on progress and it is expanding by leaps and bounds.
It was a fine start for New Zealand to the Australian Sevens Rugby leg. DJ Forbes’ team has already won the previous leg held in Hong Kong. Forbes’ team looked very consistent in the field and it scored six tries. His team was leading the match by 21-5 till
the half time. Tim Mikkelson and Tomasi Cama played reasonably well and added few points to their team’s total. Cama is now four points behind from his teammate Amasio Valence to score most points in his career.
During the second half of the game New Zealand’s skipper DJ Forbes was yellow cared by Irish Referee that proved the only suffering for his side. The All Blacks side is currently on top of the points table. Three more rounds of Rugby Sevens Series will be
played after this one and New Zealand have grabbed 110 points followed by England.
Although Rugby Sevens’ coming few years has not been decided by Australia, but on the other hand China and Portugal are the other countries that have shown their interest to host same kind of Rugby in the coming years.
International Rugby Union said that it has been looking for new ‘five year’s cycle’.
IRB spokesman said that it is quite encouraging for the future of Sevens Rugby Series that countries like Hong Kong are hosting the version.
He said: “It is a lot of work but these are incredibly exciting times. Who would have believed all these years ago in Hong Kong that this is where we would be with Rugby Sevens.”
He further stated that, “Gone are the days when it was an end-of-season booze-up or start of the season warm-up. It is now taken very seriously. We now have a series sponsor with HSBC coming on board while the NBC telecast the Las Vegas tournament live in
the US.”
