Adidas and Chelsea F.C. extend partnership till 2018
Adidas and Chelsea have had much success since the sportswear company signed a deal with the football club in 2006. They’ve had so much success that they’ve decided to extend that deal for another eight
years, locking the two organizations together until 2018.
“We are delighted to extend our partnership until 2018 after a highly successful first four years,” said Ron Gourlay CEO of the Chelsea Football Club. “Both organisations are highly ambitious and want
to continue in partnership to develop globally and for us, grow in our key market territories across Asia and North America.”
The deal, which includes the rights to official merchandise and promotional opportunities, is reportedly worth close to £175m, over £20m a year for the football club.
When the two first signed in 2006, they made history with the world’s largest team photo, a picture that included 8000 Chelsea fans. Over the past four years they’ve also partnered with America’s top youth
football clubs to help grow the sport in the US, and they launched ‘Blue Pitches’, a program that builds blue artificial turf fields in urban areas to help kids get involved in outdoor sports.
“Both Adidas and Chelsea have a long and proud heritage in football and we’re delighted to continue our working relationship with one of Europe’s elite football clubs,” said Adidas CEO Herbert Hainer.
“We look forward to many more years of success, working closely with the club on product, marketing and grass roots initiatives in the UK and around the globe.”
The Chelsea Football Club plays in the Premier League, and is based out of west London. The team won the Premier League title in 2010 in a season that saw an average home attendance of 41,423.
Adidas is a sportswear company founded in 1924 by Adolf Dassler. They are known around the world for their footwear, but they also produce a number of other products, including football jerseys.
