Adirondack King and Ill Conceived pointed toward their respective starts for trainer John Servis
Trainer John Servis, who won the 2004 edition of the Kentucky Derby with, Smarty Jones, and nothing after that not even a starter for the conditioner has a couple of talented runners, who still have much to prove before lined up with the likes of Hansen
and Union Rags, which obviously right now are a class apart from the rest of the hopefuls, and rest assure they are many.
However, no trainer would be fazed by the situation they would be facing come the Derby day, when their runners go up against the likes of the two mentioned above, but John Servis has been there done that, and he would know what to do in crunch situations.
Right not, the veteran trainer wouldn’t be thinking about the Kentucky Derby, because there is a lot of work in between, and his two potential Kentucky Derby prospects, Adirondack King and Ill Conceived, are on the trail.
Both of them turned in two starts of the new campaign, but failed to post victory in both starts as sophomores. Marchfore Thoroughbreds owned Adirondack King, raced in his seasonal debut in the Pasco Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs, and finished third to winner
Prospective, over a distance of 7 furlongs on 14 January, 2012.
In his second start of the campaign, the Grade 3 Southwest Stakes, the Lawyer Ron colt finished third again, this time to winner Secret Circle, after hard fought race at Oaklawn Park’s dirt course on 20 February, 2012.
Out of mare Jostle by Brocco, Adirondack King is now pointed toward the Grade 2, $500,000 Rebel Stakes, and that’s where his preparation for the Kentucky Derby goes to new heights.
The race is run over a distance of 1 1/16 miles on dirt, where he will meet Secret Circle yet again.
Ill Conceived on the other hand has been winless in three career starts, two of them came this season, at Laurel Park where he finished third in the Dancing Count Stakes on 28 January, and second to State of Play in the John Battaglia Memorial at about 1
1/16 miles on 3 March, 2012, at Tampa Bay Downs.
His next assignment would be a run in the Grade 3, $500,000 Vinery Racing Spiral at Turfway.
