Aditi Mutatkar stuns Ai Goto in Women’s Singles second round of the 2011 Vietnam Open Grand Prix
India’s passionate shuttler, Aditi Mutatkar displayed a stunning show of world class badminton when she defeated higher ranked Japan’s Ai Goto in the Women’s Singles first round of the 2011 Vietnam Open Grand Prix, in Vietnam, on Wednesday, August 24.
The Indian proved his worth against the Japanese indicating that she has achieved a high level of skill and is ready to enter into the squad of top shuttlers. Mutatkar worked really hard to chuck out Goto who was the fourth seed in the Women’s Singles draw
of the tournament.
The un-seeded Indian played planned badminton and emerged as the winner after putting up a tremendous show for three sets by taking 45 minutes in the court. Mutatkar’s remarkable performance pushed her into the Women’s Singles second round of the event.
In the opening game, of the match, both shuttlers remained neck-to-neck in the first part of the game as they were moving in the court with incredible speed. The score progressed with great pace from both sides as both shuttlers were not missing any chance
to score points. At the concluding phase of the opening set, the Indian played with precision and won the set in 18 minutes by a 21-18 score on the board.
It was a different story in the second set of this Women’s Singles battle as the higher ranked Japanese found her momentum and played an elevated game. She became faster in all areas of the court and played perfect strokes to dominate the rallies. Mutatkar
failed to continue her impressive flow and lost the game to Goto with the margin of 14-21, in 13 minutes.
In the final of this thrilling fight, the Indian became aggressive all of a sudden as she started to employ her powerful smashes along with perfectly executed spinning net shots. Goto tried to break the momentum of the Indian but failed as Mutatkar was playing
flawlessly.
The Indian finished off the third set in 14 minutes with a 21-16 margin. The end result of this Women’s Singles 45-minute rubber set battle was 21-18, 14-21 and 21-16.
