Aditya Mehta believes he has improved his game during recent snooker season run
In the last few weeks of 2011-12 Snooker Season, the snooker supervising body across the globe, World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) announced that there will be more snooker tournaments in the 2012-13 Snooker Season. Along with that,
the association also said that in the new snooker season, 128 players will be given a chance to take part in the professional circuit.
With this amendment, the association launched the 2012 World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) with changes in the rewards. At the end of three Q School events, 12 new rookies made their way into the new season campaign and they participated in the first
two tournaments. India’s Aditya Mehta, who was selected to take part in the new season on the basis of his tremendous performance and victory in the Asian Snooker Championship, also booked his place in the pro circuit tour.
Mehta was outstanding during his run in the 2012 Asian Snooker Championship and clinched the title after trouncing compatriot Pankaj Advani by the score line of 7-5. Getting nominated for the pro tour of new snooker season was indeed a dream come true for
the Indian potter. The youngster is determined to prove his class in the new season.
While speaking to World Snooker, Mehta said, “The last time I dropped off the tour, it took me two years to regain my place. I played well at the end of last season and I wanted to keep that momentum going, but if I had spent time off the tour I would have
been back to square one.”
He added, “I learned a lot about the game last season and improved as a player, so I am now determined to put that to good use and keep making progress. At this level it is about gaining experience and learning to handle pressure.”
Mehta participated in the qualifying sessions of 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event and the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open. Although he was unable to make it to the final stages but he did show some improvement in his class and snooker skills. He is now feeling
quite confident and is keen to continue his good form in the upcoming snooker events.
