  1. If the normal ways to adjust the contrast and brightness on your TV no longer give you the picture clarity you used to get the problem could be either components or the picture tube itself. Only a test by a Technician can verify this.

However I have restored many sets to good picture by simply adjusting the Brightness control potentiometer on the eht  transformer to bring up the high voltage to the tube a little. You could try asking a Technician to try this internal adjustment for you to see if it works in your case.  I wont suggest YOU try it because the voltages inside your TV can be lethal and any such work should only be undertaken by someone who truly understands what they are dealing with.

A Technician like me would only charge you $20........I hope you have such a person locally who will read my message to you and act upon it and match my fee for you!

Hope this works for you and keeps you  within your own expense budget.

PC monitors need special drive signals to display TV. Your local computer shop will freely advise you what you  might be able to additionally purchase to do this.

  2. Your old TV could have a Sub-Brightness control on the main board that you could adjust to get some extra brightness.  You could also adjust the Screen adjustment on the Flyback Transformer below the level when the horizontal retrace lines appear.  This is not a normal adjustment as probably called out by the specifications, but a work around to possibly get more brightness from a CRT that is possibly going bad.  You will have to bite the bullet and start considering getting a new TV.  Would not be worth repairing this one unless you have some good friends that know about TV's that can help you.
