Adjusting the gain on a signal amplifier?

Why would you want to adjust the gain? If it is too high can it cause a problem?

  1. In analog, too much signal can cause picture distortion, buzz in the sound and general bad results.

    In the digital world, too much signal can overload the tuner so it can't decode.  Then you won't get anything . . .

  2. if its too high it will distort the picture, get the best signal you can then set the amp gain to give a good picture
