Question:

Adjustment time for RGP lenses. Any opticians out there?

After about 10 years of wearing soft lenses, I decided to go back to wearing RGPs, (due to cost and blurry vision with soft lenses) which I wore successfully for nearly 10 years before going to soft. I've worn them for two weeks now and just can't get used to them. My vision seems okay, they are just uncomfortable. They don't hurt, I just feel them all the time and they drive me nuts. I never felt them when I wore hard lenses before. Do you think I should check with my eye doctor to make sure they're fit properly, or does it just take this long to adjust? The longest I've been able to wear them was 6 hours and that nearly killed me. I'm asking advice before seeing my doctor, because she wasn't thrilled with me switching to RGPs, and I don't want to insult her by suggesting that they don't fit right, if I just need to give it more time.

  1. its not an insult to go back so if you feel that you need to, you should.

but i tell my patients that the adjustment time for RGP's is about a MONTH.  it usually takes that long for the corneal desensitation to occur
