Southampton boss, Nigel Adkins, has revealed that he is feeling more confident, after his side’s 1-1 draw against Swansea City on Saturday.
The Englishman came under immense pressure recently as a result of the Saints dismal start to the campaign.
The Hampshire-based club were languishing at the bottom of the table prior to the match on Saturday, having suffered 8 defeats in their 10 outings. Although they did come up with some strong performances against the top-flight teams, they remained guilty
of conceding too many goals and have struggled to chalk out results.
However, a draw on Saturday slowed down their rut, lifting them from the bottom to the nineteenth place.
Morgan Schneiderlin put his side ahead at the Saint Mary’s Stadium, taking a clever first touch off his head before tucking the ball into the back of the net.
The lead proved to be short-lived though, as the Swans got level on terms through a Nathan Dyer goal against the tempo of the game, denying Adkins his second league win of the season.
Despite being still pitted in the drop zone, the manager said that he was feeling much more reassured following the draw.
He claimed that his side were headed in the right direction and if given more time, he will be able to shape their fortunes very soon.
“We realise we have got to get results, but look at the performance and the character we've shown. That shows you that everyone is pulling in the same direction and that's important,” he told the reporters in an interview.
“Everyone's together at the football club and moving in the same direction, which is forward.”
Swansea’s equalizer came after the Saints young shot-stopper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Maya-Yoshida-c25060, with Dyer dispossessing the latter to go on and obliterate the hosts’ lead.
Although a poor moment of judgement from the keeper cost his side all three points, Adkins refused to vituperate the youngster.
Instead, he believes that mistake like these will help him improve even further and was confident that he will prove to be a valuable asset for the club in the long run.
“We have got a young goalkeeper who is getting better all the time and he will learn from that,” he added.
