The 47-year-old tactician has expressed keen interest in adding new faces to his squad, and has set his sights on signing the Celtic striker and the Blackburn defender in the upcoming winter transfer market.
Reports in English media confirm that Southampton head coach, Nigel Adkins, has expressed keen interest in luring Celtic striker, Gary Hooper, and Blackburn Rovers defender, Scott Dann, to St. Mary’s Stadium in the upcoming January transfer window.
The 47-year-old tactician was heavily linked with a move to sign the 24-year-old striker before the start of the 2012/13 season. However, nothing surfaced serious until the summer transfer window slammed shut.
The English hit-man has an impressive record in front of goal since his arrival at Celtic Park in the summer of 2010. The prolific striker has thus far netted an exceptional 64 goals in 109 appearances for the Hoops in all competitions.
His impressive performances have caught the eye of Adkins, who lured the 24-year-old striker to Scunthorpe United at the start of the 2008/09 season during his time at Glanford Park, and reports suggest that the 47-year-old tactician would be tabling a bid
to lure the talented attacker away from Celtic Park in the January transfer window.
However, it seems unlikely that the Saints will be able to acquire the services of Hooper, who has an ongoing contract at Celtic Park that runs until the summer of 2014, as the club head coach, Neil Lennon, has made it clear that he does not want to lose
his star player halfway through the season.
In addition, after Celtic’s qualification to the Round of 16 of UEFA Champions League, the player himself would be keen to prolong his stay with the Scottish Premier League giants.
Meanwhile, Adkins is also believed to be interested in signing Blackburn Rovers defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Scott-Dann-c32662, in the upcoming winter transfer window.
The 25-year-old central defender has been putting in solid performances for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 since his arrival at Ewood Park, and his consistent showings have convinced the Saints boss to lure the English stopper to St. Mary’s Stadium in January.
Dann, who has thus far represented the Riversiders in over 50 appearances in all competitions, has an ongoing contract at Ewood Park that runs until the end of the 2014/15 season.
However, with the Rovers struggling in their quest to earn promotion to English Premier League come the end of the season, it seems unlikely that the 25-year-old would be able to turn down an opportunity to play for a top flight club.
Reports indicate that an offer in the region of £7 million would be enough to lure Dann to St. Mary’s Stadium in the January transfer window.
