Southampton manager, Nigel Adkins, was all praise for his side following their 1-1 draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Wednesday.
The Hampshire based club went behind after http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dimitar-Berbatov-c11254 opened the scoring for the host team in the eighth minute.
However, late on, Rickie Lambert converted from a spot kick to restore parity and earn a well deserved point for his side.
The draw enabled the Saints to climb out of the relegation zone. They now have 16 points from their 18 fixtures, and are a point clear of safety with a game in hand against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786.
For Fulham, though, it was another disappointing league outing, having come into the match on the back of a humiliating 4-0 defeat at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809. The draw pushed them down to the 14th spot in the table.
Nonetheless, the Southampton chief, who last week saw his side lose to Sunderland at home, was impressed with the fighting spirit shown by his side.
The Englishman said that it was exactly the kind of response he was looking from the team following their disappointing defeat to the Black Cats, and hoped that they could use it is a platform to build on a successful second half of the campaign.
“It’s important, especially winning your homes against those around you,” he told the reporters in an interview.
“That’s why we were disappointed not to get anything from the Sunderland game just before Christmas. To come away and show the great resolve that we have was very positive.”
“It’s important that there is a positivity about everything we do, there’s a desire to do well and everyone’s working well for the same cause.”
The Saints have chalked out just four wins so far, while ending up on the losing side on 10 occasions. After a calamitous start to the season, Adkins had appeared as many peoples’ favourite to become the first Premier League manager to get the axe this term.
However, the team have shown gradual improvement, giving a new lifeline to their manager.
Southampton will next square off against Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday.
