Southampton manager, Nigel Adkins, was satisfied with his side’s 3-3 draw with Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday.
The hosts had conceded just four goals at home in the ongoing season prior to the match, but their defence looked out of sorts against a whirlwind Saints’ attackers.
Rickie Lambert’s early strike was cancelled out by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andy-Wilkinson-c6057 put the visitors at the driver’s seat going into the halftime break.
However, a Matthew Upson goal followed by a screamer from Jerome helped the Potters steal a point, despite being reduced to ten men in the second period.
The draw allowed Wigan Athletic – 3-0 winners over Aston Villa on the same day – to leapfrog Adkins’ unit to the seventeenth place in the Premier League standings. The Saints are now a point away from safety, but have played a game less than their relegation
rivals.
Anyhow, despite seeing his side relinquish a two goal cushion in the second period, the Southampton boss had nothing but praise for them.
The manager pointed out that a visit to the Britannia Stadium was one of the most difficult in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749, and that scoring three goals at the venue was itself a big achievement.
He also pointed out that it required one h**l of a goal from the home team to deny them all three points from the fixture.
“I thought we did fantastically well, we have come away from home where there is a notoriously noisy home support and our fans could be heard all around the stadium,” he told the reporters in an interview.
“We scored three very good goals and they have only conceded four here all season. I thought we dominated in the first half and I was really pleased, we started ok in the second half and we had the chance to go four up. We knew we would have to defend.”
The Hampshire based club will next play http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 four days later at home.
