Southampton manager, Nigel Adkins, wants his team to bag maximum points out of their game against Fulham on Sunday.
The 47-year old was of the opinion if the Saints are to survive in the English top flight, they will need to make Saint Mary’s a fortress, and make life difficult for the visiting teams.
After gaining promotion in the Premier League, courtesy their second-place finish in the Championship last term, Southampton experienced the worst possible start to their campaign.
They suffered four defeats on the bounce, before recording a commanding 4-1 win against Aston Villa at home.
Last week, they were seconded 3-1 at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019, pushing them down to the seventeenth spot in the table.
As the Saints look to improve on their league stats, Adkins feels they have got an opportunity to begin the rebuilding process on Sunday against the Cottagers.
He cited their remarkable form at home recently, and believes that only by going about the things in a positive manner will they be able to compete in the EPL.
“It is a match we can lose, but it is a game we're going to look to go and win,” he told the reporters in an interview.
“You have to be positive at home. We have been very good at St Mary's over the last few years and again starting this season.”
Adkins’ unit trailed by a goal at the end of the first half in their last home fixture against the Villans. However, amid an electric atmosphere, they turned the tables and netted four second-half goals to seal an emphatic win.
The Englishman wants his team to emulate the same performance when they square off against Martin Jol’s men, but was wary of the fact that their opponents won’t be easy pushovers for them.
“We're under no illusions, though, as Fulham are going to be a tough team to beat. We know we've got to be at the top of our game, like every game in the Barclays Premier League, but we've got to go and look to win our games at home,” he added.
The Saints have so far managed just 3 points out of their 6 games and will be desperate for three points, in order to secure a safe distance from the relegation zone.
