Hamburg star goalkeeper Rene Adler has confirmed that he once feared for his own life, and admitted thinking of committing suicide. The former Bayer Leverkusen man said that he was very close to going into psychiatric disorder.
On the other hand, the shot-stopper has been in great run of form since the start of the season. As a result of this, he earned a call-up to the national setup for the friendly game against the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753. This was his first match
in two years and he fully deserved the opportunity.
The 27-year-old has explained this as a dream come true following his mental breakdown two years ago. He admitted that he is lucky to not have allowed his negative emotions dominate his decisions. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robert-c31222 Enke was his former team-mate
and friend, and took his own life due to depression.
The custodian claimed that his case was almost the same as of Enke. He further added that they both suffered and did not cope well with the extra pressure put on them. Therefore, he had to be cautious that he did not follow the
same path.
"Robert Enke and I were very similar. We were both very sensitive and hated the pressure that was put on us. I was so, so scared that I was going to follow a similar route to him,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
"I suffered from many injuries and I had too much pressure on me. Whenever I played I never felt fully comfortable and it affected my head," he added.
"My life used to be very focused on football. I have noticed that this is not good and even counterproductive for me,” he finally concluded.
Adler conceded that he has sustained a number of injuries in his career, and he could never really recover from his fitness problems. He maintained that he was wrong to fully concentrate only on football, and that hampered his
progress in staging a comeback.
