When asking for tax returns they also want a copy of a "employer provided W-2" for each parent's tax return. My parents' tax returns have small form on the front of their returns that say W-2. Are they it? Or is it something that they personally get from their employers?

They also want this W-2 form from me even when i worked for a while but did not file taxes because we agreed that nothing would be taking off my checks. I do remember filling out a w-2 thing when I applied for the job. Is that it?

  1. Yes, the small form on the front of their return is the W-2.  They got it from their employer.

What you filled out when you started the job was a W-4.  They should have sent the W-2 to you this past January.  If you don't have it, contact your employer and ask for a copy.
