Is there any way i can change the color of the background???

for instance in photoshop-you can have it transparent or just color fill (with the bucket) a different color

i found a tool that looked like the fill (bucket in PS) but popup said "Live Paint Bucket only colors Live Paint groups"

so how do i change the color of the background in Illustrator???

using illustrator Cs3

  1. You would actually create a rectangle shape at the same size as your document. You can put this in a layer of its own, like on Photoshop, and lock it. Just grab the rectangle tool and make sure Stroke is deselected and Fill is selected. You can make it any color you like. Then draw out the rectangle to the size you need. You can select it with the select tool, or with the direct select tool if you need to adjust the size. If you get a color you don't want, select it and then click on a swatch in the swatches palette, or set the color in the Colors palette as needed. You can also create a gradient fill if you wish.
