  1. You're kind of comparing apples to oranges.  Vegas is an entire non-linear editor (NLE, you'll see that term a lot), and also does some special effects.  The comparable Adobe program is Premiere.  After Effects does special effects, motion tracking, and that's about it.  To arrange your footage, you need Premiere too.

Vegas is easier to use because the Adobe programs are a little more professional and have a steeper learning curve, as well as a steeper price tag.  I like Premiere and AE.  My school used it and it was pretty cool.  But Vegas is probably a good choice for you, if not a bit overkill.

Good luck and enjoy making movies!

  2. I use adobe after effects for special effects and such. Vegas is more editing videos for demonstrative purposes. Vegas is easier to use and is much cheaper but I personally prefer after effects because of its ability to add realistic special effects and I don't need to use Vegas for any demonstrating. It all depends what you are after, a fun program to add special effects to show off to your friends or a professional program to add a bit of style to your videos.
