Adobe photoshop 7.0 question?

i have a background, and i want to cut part of a picture out from anouther picture, i have used the polygon lasso tool to cut it out and its got the bit going around the edge but how do i actually get that cut out bit and put it onto the background if you no what i mean ?

If by 'bit', you mean the lasso tool bordering the area you wish to use, copy and paste the selected area into the background.
