Adonis Stevenson knocks out Jesus Gonzalez in just 99 seconds – Boxing News
Adonis Stevenson, world number seven super middleweight, ended the 12-round brawl and knocked the senses out of Jesus Gonzalez, his Saturday night opponent, in just 99 seconds to retain his vacant IBF Inter-continental super middleweight gold.
The year 2012 might witness Adonis receive the KO of the year award since his current knock out is up till now the best KO of the year 2012. Adonis and Jesus were scheduled to clash in the ring at Bell Centre arena situated in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
The bout was meant to decide as to who will be the number two International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight and also had Stevenson’s vacant IBF Inter-continental title on the line. Adonis, 34, was seriously overshadowed by Jesus, 27. Adonis, infamous
as the Superman, had been in a total 17 brawls and he came out victorious in 16 brawls, collecting 13 of his wins by knock out.
Superman’s kayo ratio is pretty impressive. Gonzalez, well known as El Martillo, has a hefty resume. The young lad had been in a total 28 brawls and came out victorious in 27. Jesus is deficient in punching ability. This fact is evident from his kayo ratio.
He has knocked just 14 opponents out cold and secures a KO ratio of 48.28%.
In addition to the above disadvantage the surging American hailing from Phoenix also faced a technical drawback. Adonis had a reach of 180cm as compared to Jesus’ 178cm, a factor that enabled the Canadian to throw the massive punch that decided the fate
of the 12-round skirmish.
The bell for the first round rang and both men were just starting to sweat when Adonis instantly found a gap in Jesus’ defence. Taking advantage of that gap Adonis threw a huge superman punch at Jesus, so hard that it made the young lad fall on the floor
like a dead weight.
The referee counted the complete 10 count but Jesus was unable to continue giving no other choice to Marlon Wright, the match referee, but to end the bout. The whole crowd was stunned at the commanding and authoritative punch of Adonis which proved that
his training under the prestigious wing of Emanuel Steward, his new trainer, has eventually reached fruition.
With this win Adonis has not only retained his IBF Inter-continental super middleweight title but has also improved his rankings, his resume, his kayo and win ratio, and also retained the NABA super middleweight title, and vacant WBO NABO super middleweight
title. Adonis’ now has 17 wins in a total 18 brawls and Jesus received his career's second knockout loss.
