Adonis Stevenson nails Noe Gonzalez Alcoba to win WBC silver super middleweight title – Boxing news
Adonis Stevenson, the current IBF intercontinental, WBO NABO, and NABA super middleweight title holder, collected an impressive second-round knockout win over Noe Gonzalez Alcoba, the former WBC silver super middleweight champion, and relinquished him from
his precious WBC title, in a 12-round bout held on April, 12, 2012.
The above duo headlined ESPN2’s Friday night weekly boxing show ‘Friday Fight Nights’ which was promoted by Yvon Michel of GYM Promotions. The ring for the pay-per-view was stretched at Bell Centre situated in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and the night was co-headlined
by the light heavyweight bout between Eleider Alvarez and Rayco Saunders.
Adonis placed all the three titles on the line for this epic showdown whereas Noe also put forth his WBC title up for grabs but the bout proved that his decision was not a sensible one. Adonis, 34, was entering in his 19th bout and boasted 17 wins with 14
via knockout.
The Canadian proud after his career’s only loss to Darnell Boone has evolved into a somewhat invincible pugilists who now after the Noe-win wears four apex divisional titles round his waist.
The bout was predicted to be a toe-to-toe one but nobody knew that the Canadian knockout specialist will end the action quickly in such an authoritative manner. Noe, 32, was in his 30th bout and boasted 28 wins with 20 via KO.
Both men are impressive pugilists and were in dire need to capture media’s due attention who ignored them in fact taunted them for taking on newbie’s despite such an impressive resume. It is this reason, why the bout meant so much to both.
Adonis grabbed his NABA super middleweight gold after knocking out Derek Edwards and collected the WBO NABO and IBF intercontinental super middleweight titles by nailing Aaron Pryor Junior and Jesus Gonzales respectively.
The Uruguayan Alcoba, also known as ‘El Carbonero’, nailed Gustavo Magallanes to grasp the WBC silver super middleweight title and later on, successfully defended it against Ruben Padilla. This was his second title defence bout.
The bout started and Adonis, the ‘Superman’, leashed his might and fury and targeted Noe’s body connecting heavy-duty jabs and inflicting as much damage possible. His strategy worked out and in the second round Alcoba was visibly worn out by the body battering.
This gave Adonis ample chance to attack Noe’s face as his footwork was slow and after the passage of just one minute and 40 seconds of the second round, Michael Griffin, the bout-referee had no other choice but to intervene and halt the bout since Noe was
continuously taking the punishment and got literally numbed by Adonis’ raw-powered punches.
The emphatic second-round technical knockout win over a more experienced pugilist has enabled Adonis to shine in the limelight and he is now the owner of four titles as well which will definitely get attention of many middleweight pugilists in the division
who will now strive hard to take him on.
