Adonis Stevenson takes on Noe Gonzalez Alcoba after Librado Andrade drops bout - Boxing News
Canadian pugilist Adonis Stevenson, IBF's number two super middleweight, is scheduled to take on Uruguay’s Noe Gonzalez Alcoba, in a 12-round non-title bout which will take place on April 20, 2012.
The event is organised and promoted by Yvon Michel of GYM Promotions and the bouts are set up by Marc Ramsay. The ring for the Friday night show will be stretched at Bell Centre arena situated in Montreal, Quebec City, Canada. Adonis was originally bound
to take on Librado Andrade, a brawl which would have decided the number one contender for Lucian Bute’s IBF super middleweight gold.
Unfortunately Andrade passed the bout leaving Adonis no choice but to eyeball someone else. While clarifying and somewhat backing up his client’s decision, Yvon Michel, promoter Adonis, said that Stevenson just could have waited for the International Boxing
Federation (IBF) to decide the name of his next opponent but he does not want to waste his time and sit back idle.
Michel commented, “If he has to fight this eliminator to be the top contender in order to better position himself to become world champion, he will do just that and a win over Gonzalez would be a major step in that direction.”
Adonis has been in a total 18 bouts and came out victorious in 17. He has collected a startling 14 of his victories by knocking the opponent out. The 34-year-old Canadian has successfully held NABA, vacant WBO NABO, and vacant IBF Inter-continental super
middleweight titles and boasts wins over intimidating names.
The world number seven, Adonis, is recently coming from a win over Jesus Gonzales and secured the second spot in the race for the super middleweight gold. Noe, 32, Adonis’ opponent, has a pretty impressive resume.
The Uruguayan has been in a total 29 bouts and came out victorious in 28. He has collected 20 of his brawls by knockout. The competition will definitely be tough and Adonis will certainly face his career’s most difficult opponent as quoted by Emanuel Steward.
Steward, trainer Adonis, while praising Noe’s pugilism said, “Gonzalez is the most difficult opponent of Adonis career. Both fighters can end a fight with a single punch at anytime. ‘Superman’ is back here training in Detroit and he will be fully prepared
to win impressively once again.”
Noe, well known as ‘El Carbonero’, is coming from an emphatic second round knockout win over Paul Rodriguez and is also on a long win streak. In addition, Alcoba is also the owner of the WBC silver super middleweight gold, a title that he grabbed by nailing
Ruben Padilla.
