  1. You should start by researching "ethical adoptions"

Some questions you will need to answer:

What type of adoption are you considering?  Foster, International, domestic, etc.

What age are you considering? newborn, toddler, older child.

Please check out the website www.informedadoptions.com

This site is made up of primarily adoptive parents and would be able to answer specific questions you will have.

  2. no u dnt have to have qualifications but u do need to be old enough i cnt remeber exactly and u will have checks done on u to make sure u r capable.

I am 13 and adopted so GO FOR IT it will change a kids life forever i was adopted at 10 so i was so grateful if u really want to make a diffrence adopt a kid not a baby as usually us lot have gone through h**l like abuse b4. Dont rush it though. And be sure u get on the kid or baby b4 me and my adoption paretns get on brill but they r bossy

  3. www.godparent.org

i was adopted from the godparent home in lynchburg virginia

they have a really good screening process that makes sure the baby is going into a good home, and you can keep in touch while your child is growing up. they have reunion picnics and such for the adopted children and adoptive parents, and thats great because you get to meet other adopted children. they also are very helpful when the child is ready to find out about their past.

  4. Read "The Primal Wound" by Nancy Verrier.

  5. We adopted a 5 year old and her 1 year old brother in 2003.

It required about one year from the start of training to the point our home study was completed.

It took several more months before our family was matched with children.

We were selected the first time we were taken to "committee" and the actual transition happened just about two years from the day we started the process of adoption.

It was another 11 months before the adoptions were finalized.

Everything that you have done will make a difference on you home study and when being considered as the best placement for children. Any efforts you make to educate yourself, or gain experience in dealing with children will only add to your home study.

The age and qualifications of the adoptive parents (especially if you are interested in sibling adoptions from the state) depend on the Child and the state's requirements.

The best way to learn the ins and outs is to contact your local children's services or department of human services and ask for information about foster care and adoption. Then get involved with your local area Foster Parents and Adoptive Parents support groups.
