  1. It depends on the country...

China...10-12 months from the time the agency submitted paperwork to the time they received their intial referal

Russia...6-12 months from the time USCIS approves the petition to the date of the visa interview

    S. Korea...1-4yrs between when the couple begins pre-adoption processing and when the child arrives in the US

Ukraine...3-12 months after parents submitt their dossier until the appointment date

Guatemala...9.5 months (survey of "start to finish")

    Ethiopia...6 months to 2yrs

Kazahstan...didn't say-but you have to be in the country for a min. of 60 days

  2. I believe it takes a while, my Aunt adopted a baby from China and it took her almost a year to work out all the details and it is very costly.

  3. It depends on what kind of country it is because in africa its about 5-6 monthes

  4. ALL adoption take time.  It is not something people do on a whim.  You have to:

Research what kind of adoption you want

    Research agencies

Call and talk to staff at agencies

Ask for packets or agency info to be sent

Go to adoption forums and read about agencies, etc.

Review all agencies and choose one

    Apply to agency

    Get Homestudy scheduled

If accepted by agency, and your Homestudy is approved, then complete all the necessary paperwork

And, this is just the beginning!

So, on an average probably one year minimum -- three or fours years maximum, especially if you adopt from Russia.  Very slow right now.

  5. It not only depends on the country, but also on the agency. We adopted both of our children from Korea. I know for some people in other states it has taken almost 2 years, however from application from arrival it was only 7 months for our first son, and only 5 months for our second.

Definetly talk to several agencies because it can greatly vary, and estimated time can also change over time too. Basically it can usually take anywhere from 1 day to 16 months for a child referral, and then anywhere from 1-9 months for travel. In most cases though I think it takes about a year or less total.

    Good luck.

  6. China is currently at 19 months for referral and expected to go beyond two years.

You can also go the waiting child route which has mild medical needs children and are processed fater to help the kids.

  7. it varies. I believe that Guatemala is the quickest, and it's quicker to adopt boys for some reason. try a google search for more info
