Question:

Adopting In UK, Is It Hard??

Can someone pls tell me some info on adopting in the UK.

After you register, how long dpes the whole process take? How intrusive is the process or difficult, I dont mind but i'd just like to know to prepare myself.

Is it very expensive? Is it very hard or a very long wait for a child under the age of 2 to be placed with you, not that I would just go for that age group as my husband and I would also be just as happy to have an older child who needs love to be placed with us.

Any info on how hard of long it takes in the UK would be appreciated.

Thankyou xxxx

  1. The standards expected are among the most stringent in the world.

Though certain criteria obviously should be met, perhaps they are still a little too high. The governments short sighted stance means that thousands remain in care homes that could be settling into loving family homes.

  2. its long and can take 2 to 3 years

  3. nope

  4. The costs are minimal as adoption is practised as a social service for children and not as a business (like in the States) and private adoption is illegal for ethical reasons (thank the lord!)

Probably around £140-£200 will cover all the costs and court fees you need to pay.

All your questions can be answered by contacting your local social services - there are loads of children awaiting homes so the wait time is minimal.   But if you are demanding an infant, then it will take as long as it takes for an infant to be unfortunate enough to end up in the care system.

    Best of luck

  5. It is very hard. And children under 2 are almost impossible. After you begin the whole process takes about a year. And the average age of an adopted child is 4.
