Adopting a child from Iraq?

I am 40 and don't have any children of my own. My spouse is from Iraq and we live happily here in England. What are my chances of adoption of a child from Iraq and how do I start the process or start my enquiries?

  1. I got this from the US government web site on foreign adoption:

"Iraqi law does not currently permit full adoptions as they are generally understood"

England must have a similar site.

    Good luck.

  2. Iraq doesn't allow adoption.  None of the Muslim world allow adoption.

  3. Iraq may not allow for full adoption (changing the last name of a child is not allowed in Islam) but there is a possibility of bringing a child over for some sort of foster care. A great deal of their orphanages have been destroyed, so God knows it's needed. I work with Iraqi children, and am Iraqi myself, so I may be able to help you out. As a side note, I greatly admire what you aim to do, not many people are willing to adopt children from an 'enemy' country, despite the urgent need.

  4. your first stop should be a solicitor to make sure that everything is legal and above board. Your solicitor should be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck

  5. Unfortunately Iraq does not allow intercountry adoption, see the link below for explanation. It is from a US website but i think it applies to brits too. Wolfmuslim you are wrong - some islamic countries do allow adoption. My husband is from iran and was adopted as a baby and we are thinking of adopting a child from iran in the future.
