Question:

Adopting a senior Husky?

I am thinking of adopting an 8 year old Husky from a local shelter. I have gotten one other dog from this particular shelter - she was also a senior Husky and she was just the sweetest dog! What do you think? What are the pros vs. cons of adopting him? I am thinking of going to meet him later today. What should I look for in him to be a good pet to adopt?

  1. I think it is GREAT that you are considering giving an older dog a home.  It breaks my heart when I see all these older dogs in the pound that you know have given some family the best years of their life.  Then, for some reason, they are dropped off somewhere that is scary and noisy.  They are surrounded by strange people, sounds, smells.  They no longer have their comfy bed to sleep in.  When I get a dog, it is for life.  I wish everyone would be like that.  There would be a lot less animals dropped off on the side of the road, pounds, etc.

  2. pros- it'll probly be better with things and be potty trained, have shots, and  stuff like that.in other words wiser. Cons- its old so it could get ill or die, my friend had a husky and it got older and couldn't go up the stairs. u should make sure ur dogs got a good persinality and is friendly toward u and ur family. it wouldn't hurt to look up huskys and how long they live and stuff like that if u have not already. also if the dog is mean or scared it could be (if it has been) that it was in the shelter too long. ask how long its been in there. if it has not been 2 long then u should not get it if its mean unless u think u could soften it up a bit. and if its scared thats no suprise.
