Question:

Adopting from Sudan?

It breaks my heart to see all these Sudanese orphans- especially the ones from Darfur. Does anyone know what the adoption opportunities are for this country, since the people who have been mistreated are unwanted there anyway? What is our government doing to help? Any information is appreciated.

  1. This website has information about the U.S. government's status on its citizens adopting from Sudan.  The website also has information about specific details of adopting from other countries.  It looks like you can't adopt there right now, but it does say that you "generally" can't, so it might be possible in some circumstances.

  2. This is what I could find on adoption programs in the Sudan.

Sadly, war in Africa is not uncommon and often overlooked by the rest of the world.  It happened in Rwanda, the Congo, Liberia, Sierra Leone, among other countries.  The rest of the world doesn't see Africa as a priority.

If you are looking to contribute to charity, be sure the organization is legitimate.  There are lots of scams out there and people gladly will take your money.  You don't want to be paying for someone's swimming pool!

  3. Also - adoption is not permitted in Muslim countries or of Muslim kids. Although Albania aloows adoption - I am not sure if they are Muslim or not. Much of the strife that is going on in Darfur right now is caused by the Janjaweed who consider themselves "Arabs' and not black. I know that my partner and I wanted to adopt from Sudan so badly - but until the conflict clears up, it looks impossible. It's like that in any African countries that are in the midst of such turmoil.
