My husband and I would like to adopt a child. I am able to have children, but for medical reasons, my doctor has advised for me that a pregnancy would be harmful to my health. We were looking to adopt a child from Russia/ukraine, anyone done this?

  1. Personally, I would be scared to give birth, but once it was over I would be happy to have a child that I created :). But if it deals with your health you should probably adopt. Who wouldn't want to help a child in need, and in the end have a son or daughter of their own? Go for it, chica!

  2. How about finding a fullfilling life childfree?

You could lend support to children/parents who need a little extra help. It's been said it takes a villiage. That is a very postive outlet for your nurturing feelings....

  3. I've heard of it. Just be careful, because some people can scam you by making you give them all your money, and never getting a child in return. Goo Luck!

  4. well. no.

I would risk it all for the joy of giving birth. it is every womans birth right and it is the one thing all women look forward to in life...but whatever, do what you want and die not knowing what it would be like...i dont care.

  5. Best of luck!

  6. It's really sad you can't have your own, but God bless you for wanting to give a child the chance of a better life. It matter's not what country, a child without family is just as needy in Russia or the states. Where ever your child comes from, I'm sure he or she will be a wonderful addition to your family.

  7. My whole family is from ukraine and they all turned out pretty much fine so im sure your kid will too.

  8. I am not from another country but I am adopted.  I believe that adoption is a beautiful thing.  Giving a home to a child that needs one is a very selfless act and it shows how much love you have in your heart.  I am sorry that it would endanger your health to bear a child but adoption is wonderful thing and shows just how wonderful you and your husband really are.  I hope that you do adopt a child from Russia/Ukraine and I hope that the child flourishes with the love that you and your husband have to give.

  9. I haven't adopted personally (yet) but all I can recommend to you is research! adoption.com, adoption.org and adoptionblogs.com are great places to start. It is possible to adopt from Russia and I think Ukraine, but the processes are in a time of constant change and I've heard there is a backlog of paperwork. Best of luck!

  10. Good for you.  It will probabl will cost you around $20,000. or more.

  11. Why not contact your nearest local adoption agency for help?

    Ask a church pastor?

Look in a phone book under the word "adoption"?

There might be a starting ground for finding the proper channels to go thru to adopt as well as to maybe find others who have that you can speak to.

  12. Amanda P....You need help.  How dare you say such a thing.  You have no idea what us woman go through that can not get pregnant and would love too.  How much do you really think carrying a child and dieing in the process would really do for a child?....I think you need to go read the bible...God is love not cruel....As for the question...I think it is a wise idea and god be with you on your journey.  We adopted a son 7 years ago.  We are very happy and blessed...

  13. It is extremely difficult for a foreigner to adopt a child from Ukraine or Russia these days. Both countries are trying to protect children, and avoid the wholesale adoptions without controls that used to occur in the late 1990's.

In both countries, you must now use an adoption agency. In Russia, specifically, you must use an foreign adoption agency that is licensed and regulated by the Russian government. Make sure you use an agency that follows Article 268 of the Russian Federal law.

A google search on "Russian adoption Article 268" will bring up several agencies that post their certification credentials online.

  14. God bless you for wanting to help an innocent child!  If that's what you want,  go for it!  A child is waiting for you!!!

  15. We adopted a boy at 6 weeks in 1970.Then had a baby which was unexpected.I highly recommend adoption to anyone that wants to raise & love a child...LOL

  16. Nope but I rather adopt than harm my health

  17. Well done you. If you want to have children you will need your health. And giving love to other children is a fantastic thing to do . Good Luck for all your futures and may your God Bless you with love x
