My mother passed away a few years ago, and my lil' sister has been living with my grandparents up home. Well, things have gotten rocky and I was wondering what steps I needed to take to adopt my sister. Any help would be appreciated.

  1. I believe that you could become her legal guardian. Check out the source pages, they all give some details. After looking at your profile and seeing that you are 18, assuming you have not yet been convicted of a felony, you could become a guardian pretty easily. According to http://www.guardianship.org/pdf/question...

you might need to take a short class by the state (depending on what state you live in). If you keep reading that pdf file, it should explain most things you need. If your sister's grandparents do not want to give her up, though, then you might need to hire legal council. I hope everything goes well for you and your sister. Best of luck!!!

  3. You need to seek legal advice from a lawyer. He will help you figure out what steps to take. Then you can gain appropriate custody of your sister. I hope that this helps.

  4. are you from usa? i think it would depend on your grand parents age and your  sisters  how easy  it would be. ask  a local social service worker if you are in usa.  god bless and  good luck!

  5. Im not so sure about the whole adopting thing cause that coud get pretty extensive but you could most definatly become her legal gueardian thats what my friends mo did with me after my parents passed away. Go to the local court house and explain the situation and ask them how to go about it. You will have to go through them most likely anyway to gain guardianship of your sister.

  6. Well i know what kind of situation your in. i adopted my 12 year old sister 2 years ago. My mother died and my dad was in jail. So i took it in my own hands to go to court and ask an attorney what steps i should take to adopt her. Now I'm married an pregnant and adopting her was the best thing i have ever done for my life. So I would suggest going to and attorney's office and asking them what you could do.

    Good luck

    -God Bless :)
