Question:

Adopting while living abroad?

My husband and I would like to adopt an infant through about 2 years of age, and we don't care about race or gender. Currently due to the military life we are living in Germany and will return to the States in 2010. We would like to start the adoption process this coming January or 08' and hopefully be able to have the child in 6-15 months. I was sondering if anyone has adopted while living abroad before and if so what were there experiences and what agency did you go through. Any advice or help would be greatly appriceated :o) Thanks!

  1. I say great for you that you would like to adopt and am proud that you are alright with any race or color of a child. Its even more great that you want to adopt a baby and while living abroad too. I know a lot of kids who were adopted in the U.S. when they were about three or four, but I also know a few who were adopted abroad or when they were infants, and they seem more content with their life and family. I don't have much advice except that you should stick with your plan and raise a great child!

  2. My British parents adopted me in the USA whilst they were living there.

I'd say go through the German system if you can

  3. We are expats living in Romania and considering adoption here. I would speak with your embassy and maybe someone in the Social services there and find out if it is possible and how to go about it. Good Luck.
