We're in Ontario, does anyone have experience with the process & hurdles here? I've heard getting a healthy baby is impossible and am discouraged.

  1. Hi Lisa,

I am in Ontario, and we're almost finished our homestudy.  Yes, getting a newborn is difficult, so we may try that route, but we are also focusing on a toddler aged 0-3 from the CAS.  If you call then CAS they may discourage you, as they have so many older children available for placement, but fill out their forms anyway and then their attitude changed.  We are getting a private homestudy and taking private PRIDE training , because we didn't want to wait the 18 months our society takes to give you the study and training.

I spoke to the Adoption Supervisor and he said once were approved by the Ministry (our SW submits the homestudy to the Ministry of Youth and children's Services) and our PRIDE training was complete, we would set up a meeting with them and then be eligible to be matched.

With the CAS they match the child to the best suitable family, so there is a waiting time.  In my PRIDE training, the SW  said we should all be matched within 2 years.
