Question:

Adoption Possible?

My 3 year old niece is now in my custody after the courts told my sister for the SECOND time that she was not a propper mother. My sister wasn't mad, but relived. She told me she would rather have her daughter in better hands. I'm glad she's out of denial after one year.

So, if I get her mom to give away her paretnal rights, could I adopt my niece? I know my sister will say yes. My niece's father died in IraQ two years ago, so I don't need to worry about him. Thanks!

  1. yes you can and you just get a child lawyer and go for it take care.

  2. most courts try to place the child with the family before they place with strangers. Good luck!

  3. if you truly want this girl, immediately get in contact with the social services handling her case and ask if you can have custody or temperary placement.  Maintaining a relationship is the most important when getting custody.  You may have to become foster care certified or they may just give her to you...as long as you are considered to be a good person to raise her.  Like over 18 or 21 in some states, a job or income to support you and her, a daycare plan in case you work, and able to past their background or criminal history checks.

  4. Talk with her about it that you want to adopt her girl. Then if she said yes, The you would need to get a lawyer and go through court for her to give up her mother rights and you have to sign paper for the adoption. Good Luck,,

  5. Yes you can.  I know a man who has a sister who has a drug problem but she has had 3 kids. His mother adopted 2 of them one as a newborn and the other at the age of 5.  He himself has just adopted his sisters youngest child and he took her in as a newborn and the baby is maybe 10 or 11 months old.  His sister gave away her rights and he legally adopted her.  Everything is fine.  So adopt your niece congrats!
