Question:

Adoption Requirements?

I was wondering if there were any certain requirements for placing a child up for adoption....my grandfather was placed in a boy's home around 1915 in Pennsylvania. I just wonder if parents could place them because they didn't want them or they had to show hardship. Obviously, just curious as to why my grandfather was placed in an orphanage.

  1. I'm not sure if there were any requirements pre se but my grandfather and his siblings was given to an orphanage because his mother died and his father "wasn't able" to take care of the kids. (we think he might have been an alcoholic). I think if parents wanted (or needed) to give up kids, there's not much authorities could do to stop them.

You might contact the boys home to see if there are any records you can access. They might contain more information about your grandfather's situation.
