Adoption Reunion?

My brother is now 38 and I am looking for some help in finding his mom and sister. He doesn't want to know his mom but is somewhat interested in finding his sister. He only wants to see her if shes looking for him. He was born in California.

What websites would you go to for finding out if she is looking for him that are free?

  1. Contact the agency he was adopted out of.  Let them know who he is looking for.  (You might have to look for his mom to find his sister...)

Adoption.com is a good website you can use to search for his sister too.

International soundex registery is a good place to register too.  (never know where you might register and she might register, so best to register all over the place.)

Keep in mind they may not want to get to know him.... we have one sister that wants nothing to do with my brother.  But, that is ok, that is her prerogative

  2. Hi Princess,

I recommend first signing up with International Soundex Reunion Registry.

It's free, it's worldwide, they keep your info on file until a match is made or you request them to remove it.

I located two different natural family members through them.

    Here's their link http://www.isrr.net/

    Good luck.

EDIT to reply to your additional details: It's a long shot, but you could also consider writing a letter to the judge of the county where the adoption was finalized to petition for that information due to medical reasons.  Good luck.

  3. Adoption.com. it is great . hope it helps you

  4. Seems like you are the one interested in him finding his family.

What are your motivations for searching on his behalf?

  5. Register with ISRR then Google California adoption reunion registries and register on as many registries as you can.

Don't rely solely on registries though, as some people just don't know about their existence.  Find a search angel who knows the ropes and let them guide you

There are many search and support groups who can help you - look them up in your area

And do all you can writing to legislators to get Adoptees equal access to their own birth records

    Best of luck

  6. CA is one of the easier states to search.  many search angles have their databases on file.

register with g's adoption reunion registry and the group will begin the search.

  7. If he knows the agency where he was placed, he can get non identifying information and at the same time have a letter put into his file requesting that he is looking for his sibling. If the sibling or bmom has a letter there, then they can set up a meeting.

  8. Contact vsn.org  (volunteer search network) for a search angel who is familiar with searching in CA. Good luck.
