  1. This is a natural outgrowth of the same mentality that allows a minor to have her child aborted without consent of her parents.  For the judge to be wary of this is good, but seems disingenuous

  2. First of all there is no one ap/pap perspective, but for the most part I think the perspective would be the same as yours that this agency was not legit and sought to make money so it is good that it is closed down.

I have never been a person who says for profit agencies are a good thing, but I also don't think adoption is a bad thing.

  3. Never heard of "A child's waiting."

Is there a site or a news report on it?

ETA: OKay, now that I've had times to read the article after I got back from work (Thanks to the 3 thumbs down, btw.  Why wait until I actually write an opinion before you dis it.)

I also think it is incongruent that a minor can get an abortion (a surgical procedure) without parental consent, but cannot choose to place a child for adoption without parental consent.  These two laws just seem contradictory.

The agency advising a pregnant minor to run away from home is WAY unethical.  I'll be interested to see where this goes from here.

  4. I do not think under age girls should be allowed to give their child away without parental notification...ideally both parents.

I also do not support the governments right to circumvent my rights as a parent when allowing underage girls to undergo a surgical abortion without parental consent.

I also recognize in the incidence of abuse or incest this may be necessary so a guardian-at-litem should be assigned to the case.

I mean isn't this just common sense.  Dear God were not all in the wings waiving money around snatching people's kids.

  5. Good.  I cannot believe it is not standard to notify the teenage mother's parents. *sigh*  The agency got what was coming to them.

I guess i'll be emailing my state senators again.  My state wasn't on the list to required parental notification.

Thanks for bringing the issue to my attention.

  6. Well, I believe adoption can be a good thing in some circumstanses, BUT

i've never heard of that agency.. were they very unethical?

If so, then it's good they got shut down.. I don't think adoption should be "done away with" but there needs to be aLOT more regulations and "Checks" on agencies..

I believe in giving young women the OPTION of placing their children for adoption if that's what they feel is right, but I do NOT believe in allowing any kind of bias (other than anti-abortion bias) or coercion from agencies..

  7. So let me get this straight....a minor can walk into an abortion clinic and have an abortion, which is a MEDICAL procedure and could lead to physical complications, not to mention emotional problems......but must have permission to give up her child for adoption?

I went to undergrad with a woman who had a daughter with a very rare blood clotting disorder, EXTREMELY rare in females...she didn't tell the clinic because she was afraid they'd refuse to do the abortion (and most likely didn't realize at the age of 16 and being scared how serious this was).  My friend and her husband walked in (from Mass no less) and found their daughter in a pool of blood in the bathroom....who knows how much longer she'd have lived if they hadn't come home?

I think a child should have the support of their parents and their own legal counsel before a child is surrendered.  Teens don't always think under the best of situations, let alone when they are scared....I feel sorry for the baby in this case more than anyone.

  8. I don't think there is an easy answer here.

Was the company unethical?  I don't know.  The state laws did not require them to obtain consent from the 16 year old's parents.  As horrible as that sounds, they can claim they acted in a way they felt would benefit both the biological mother and the child the most.  And, because they acted in accordance with the law, should they have been shut down?  Without more detail, it is hard to say.   Even the allegation that they advised the girl to run away from home could be questioned as ethical or not, perhaps the girl feared her parents reaction?  Perhaps there was concern of abuse?  In those cases, the advice may have been sound.

Personally, I believe there should be a requirement for parental consent when the biological mother is under 18.  However, there should also be a process to bypass that requirement (perhaps assign a guardian ad lidem) if there is reason seeking that consent is a problem.

  9. Actually, the link to the article you posted said the agency is still allowed to operate while going through the review process.

  10. I don't think minor girls should be able to have an abortion OR relinquish a child for adoption without parental consent.

  11. Here's the latest on them.  This article just came out in Ohio:

State seeks to close adoption agency

Ohio department to yank A Child's Waiting license; Copley operation to appeal

    By Rick Armon

    Beacon Journal staff writer

Published on Wednesday, Mar 19, 2008

The state is seeking to shut down a local adoption agency, citing numerous violations, including placing a child in an uncertified foster home and not documenting background checks.

A Child's Waiting of Copley Township was notified last week in a 12-page letter that the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services won't renew its certification and plans to revoke its license.

  12. They are shut down.  With over fifty violations, they were shut down and not allowed to renew their license.

I have the letter that they received.  It will be in the Akron news tomorrow.  Hallejah!!!!!!! God does prevail.

  13. That agency name does ring a bell but thankfully, I didn't work with them.

Are you directing this to the AP/PAP's attention to say "ha-ha"?
