Adoption for a same s*x couple?

Legality is not an issue where I am, but I was just wondering if there were additional costs associated with a same s*x couple trying to adopt. I can see through the research I've done that adoption can normally run about $40,000.

There shouldn't be any real additional costs. Did someone suggest to you that there were? Maybe if you exlained we would have some ideas...

Only possibilities that come to my mind are that perhaps the only agencies that would deal with g*y couples would be more expensive ones? Don't know why that would necessarily be, but that would be my only thought. Maybe some agency would try to exploit you and charge more? Still seems weird, but you never know, some agencies seem only to be in it for money...

Only other thing I could think of is that sometimes a g*y couple cannot directly adopt together as a couple. Instead sometimes what happens is that one adopts as a single person, and then the other adopts as a second parent (sometimes the law say "step parent"). If that were the case in your state, then that would be an added expense, but it wouldn't be much, maybe a thousand or so at the very most -- should be able to do this without a lawyer.

Forty thousand sounds like a lot. There are cheaper options. The least expensive is through your local (county or state) foster to adoption program. As others have mentioned, this is only a few thousand dollars -- at the most. And these kids really need homes.

There are different costs for adoption, depending on the circumstances.  US adoption vs overseas adoption vs foster-adoption.  I don't think being a same s*x couple would have any bearing on the cost of adopting, regardless of the type done.  Good luck!

I am sorry but I think you should reconsider.

Tish you should know that the Gladney Center for Adoption does charge less for their ABC domestic infant adoptions.

(ABC= African American, Biracial Adoptions) then they do for there Hispanic, Caucasian and Asian infants. Sick and disturbing and they are NOT the only agencies that do this!!!

in order to adopt a child that they could "pass" as their own.

It is the equivalent of modern day slavery.

that's simply wrong.  IMO, a same s*x couple can be just as good as a heterosexual couple.  the homophobia-based double standards p**s me off... i agree w/sunny, have you tried foster care?

also, "the lighter the shade the more expensive the tot will be"...are you serious???  that's about the most disgusting thing i've read in quite a while.  and people wonder why i don't advise any black or minority woman to place for adoption, unless there are no other options...

Why would it change the cost if the parents are g*y? A huge population of the US is g*y. If they are adding extra costs because people are g*y, they should stop. Same-s*x couples have as much right to adopt a child as straight couples do-there is absolutely no difference.

If there are additional costs do me a favor and FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHTS!!! That's discrimination! That's like saying if a black man wanted to adopt a black child it's another $10,000 extra. This may be something you'd have to look up in your local area yourself. I wish you the best of luck though! I think it's wonderful you're thinking about giving a child a wonderful life! Good luck!
