Question:

Adoption for an Emancipated Minor?

A very close friend of mine (15) was legally emancipated in the U.S. about a year ago because she became pregnant and her birth parents didn't approve.

Anyway, she moved to France a few months ago and she has become really close with her married neighbors. They are really wanting to adopt her/have custody of her.

Can you legally adopt an emancipated minor in a foreign country?

  1. An emancipated minor's parents have no say in it. They have terminated their parental rights. The french laws would apply from this point out.

  2. that so wonderful!

french law is what would apply

They have inheritance laws too that we don't have.

If she consents to the adoption she may have citizenship issues.
