Question:

Adoption from China question?

I know that China has rules on how many children you can have before adopting a child from their country, but can this be overlooked if you are adopting a special needs child (deaf)? I know some countries will overlook the current number in a household if they have a difficult to place child. I was just curious about China.

Thank you!

  1. I believe that the family size restrictions are waived if you are adopting a special needs child.  But also, China is overall tightening their requirements, so I'm not sure if that one changed.

  2. I think so, i know a family of 8 that adopted a special needs child from china.

  3. Actually, China recently added more stringent policies.  But I was just reading on a yahoo group that China got rid of the family size restriction.  Go figure, they make everything else more strict but relax family size.  Double check this, I just heard it on a yahoo group and haven't researched it.  In general, China does have fewer restrictions for families adopting special needs children.
