Adoption fundraising?

I have noticed an online trend of people fundraising to assist with the cost of adopting. My curiosity is if the same techniques could be used to fund a search and/or reunion?

  1. Thats just icky. Blah.

It should work both ways right?  I'm with you on this one.

  2. thats not a bad Idead at all! Go for it, I will gladly help

  3. fundraising tacky?

but they desssserervvve to raise someone else's kid and teach it to call them MOM and DAD....even if they can't afford it, or worse if it takes a chunk off their retirenment savings.

somebody owes them, esp. if their bodies failed reproductively, then everyone should PAY!!

  4. Where are they advertising?  Is it idividuals appealing to their own families or the general public?  I have never seen that before.

You can make donations to the International Soundex Reunion Registry and help maintain the database of people who are searching.  They are a non-profit so your donation would be tax deductible.

  5. The thing about fundraising is that you have to disclose what you're raising money for.  It's not like people are hiding the fact that they want the money to adopt.  If other people WANT to give them money for that, why do you care?

By the same token, if you want to ask people for "search" money, and people what to give it to you, why would I care?

Personally I don't donate to adoption funds because there are too many kids in foster care who need homes, and those kids are "free"ish.  I won't give money to someone asking for a baby because he/she is picky.

On the other hand, unless there was a real medical emergency, I wouldn't donate to a reuinion fund either.  There are people who really NEED things, and I'd rather donate there.

  6. What!!??  Sponsor some ungrateful adoptee who was probably a failed abortion anyway?  So she can go and break the hearts of the kind-hearted folks who sacrificed everything to take her in rather than leave her to rot and die in a dumpster?  Ungrateful b*****d!

  7. you can try anything but not sure if it would work.

  8. Oh no, I don't think the same techniques would work -- because I can't think of any adoptees I know that could stomach using those techniques.

  9. fundraising for adoption is very tacky. People should know the costs before they consider adopting. I think if people did that they would consider foster care to adopt. There are more kids in foster care that need adoption.

  10. I think adoption fundraising is disgusting. I have seen it for weddings, too. "Yeah! Let's all be like Star Jones-Reynolds and have sponsors for our wedding! GM, Johnson & Johnson, anyone interested?" Yuck, yuck, yuck.
