If a mother chooses to give up a child for adoption after its birth does she have to get the father's permission in order to do in America?

  1. Not necessarily. A man who thinks a woman might be pregnant and the child might be his has to take steps to establish his parental rights. Since a pregnant woman is obviously the mother of the child, her rights are automatically established when she gives birth. A man has to take legal action to establish them. At least that is how the law works in most states. All states are different.
