I know someone that has been dating this guy for a year now. She's 20 and he's 19. His sister had her children (3) removed from her custody when she went to jail for theft, drugs and something else. They were in foster care up until about 2 months ago when the foster family said they couldn't take them in any longer. These two decided to take them, and now are saying they're adopting them. The girl doesn't work, hasn't worked since she was fired from her last job about 6 months ago, and he flips from odd job to odd job about every 5 - 6 weeks. They don't have a car. They were just given eviction papers. The peope they associate with are known (have arrest records) drug dealers and users. The mother of these kids hangs out with them on a daily basis.

Now, my questions are ... What is CPS thinking? Do you think these two have any chance of actually adopting these 3 young children?

I don't get involved. I'm just tied to this by marriage. I'm curious of your opinions.

  1. Unfortunately it may just be a possibility. There are so many children in the system that CPS states it is better for a child to live with D- relatives, than to get thrown into a system that they really have no place to send them. Now a days it is easier to have a child and not take care of them due to the fact everyone knows that there child will be taken care of. CPS is taken advantage of and parents use it as an excuse to not have to tend to their children. Because of the increase of children over the years, there simply isn't enough people in the system to be able to help out all of the children. It's very unfortunate, but CPS wasn't left with alot of options. Hopefully, the Judge will be able to see that. And along with that, it is going to cost them at least 15 grand to aopt just one child, and you stated that they dont have a car. Well if they cant get a car they sure in the heck arent going to be able to fork over 45,000 dollars. Best of luck.

  2. with kin-gap they will likely get a check every month even if they are legally adopted.

if you have any doubt call the case worker or the foster care agency and tell them what is going on, if kids are in danger then you need to get involved.

  3. Hopefully this couple will relinquish custody of those children when they hear that the checks will be stopping. Or they will get evicted and CPS will take them away from these winners as well.

  4. The courts have to approve the adoption and unless the mothers rights have been removed the mother (and father) of the children will have to sign off.  CPS probably doesn't realize all the stuff going on because if the guy had a job at the time of placement and the house was clean and everything they probably felt it was ok but some caseworkers really just don't know the things they need to know to make a good decision.  I would say chances are they won't get the adoption approved but if they get witnesses in there that stand up for them and say they are good people blah blah blah anything is possible i guess.
