My mom was adopted in 1952 in Montreal, QC. I know the name of the adoption agency that my grandparents went through, and her date of birth, but that's all. How would I go about searching?

  1. you should start by requesting non-identifying info. While I was waiting for this (which can take months) I actually went to the court house in the county I was born in and looked through old records - because I was born in the 60s the records were still in card catalogs and books.  I found by birth name that way.  Then is was much easier - it did take me about 18 months to find my birth family after having her name.  I also joined a support group which was very helpful - everyone had ideas - look for one in your area.  Good Luck!

  2. I don´t know.  But I want to tell you that I have left written instructions that if I cannot get my original birth certificate in my life-time, that my children must ¨pick up the torch¨ and get it, or if they can´t, yet again pass the torch to another generation.  My history is their history.  Good luck.

  3. Try International Soundex Reunion Registry.

  4. Contact the adoption agency and request information - at the very least your Mom is entitled to non-identifying information
