Question:

Adoption thru Oklahoma DHS?

My best friend and her husband were told thru a family member about two children, 8 months and 2 years of age, that were just recently put into foster care thru DHS. The parents have signed over all rights. I know it's possible to adopt thru DHS. I've researched their website, but there are no links or information provided regarding the possiblity of adopting specific children. Is there any way for my friends to request adopting those children? If the parents have already signed over their rights to DHS, is there any way they can request where the children be placed? I understand that my friends will still need to go thru the legal processes and background checks, I'm not worried about that. They are kind, well-established, greatly respected members of the community and wonderful Youth Pastors of one of the local churches. Any information would be helpful. Thank you!

  1. If the parents rights are already terminated then the children are already listed with a national adoption registry. If you friends are trully interested they need to contact the social workers involved immediately regarding these children.  The foster family they are presently with usually gets first choice as they are the ones already caring for them. If these children are already spoken for then your friend should go thru the process of getting adoption certified so DHS will know for future kids.

  2. How sad that these parents just gave up on what they created!!! OMG!!!  I think it's great they want to help them out!  I also think it's great they have a good such like you who is trying so hard to help them out!  I would call the DHS and they can steer you or them in the right direction.  Best wishes!
