"why not adopt a puppy?"

  1. I would not get a puppy, I am against the breeding mills that churn out puppies when there are perfectly good adult dogs, like mine, who was already potty-trained

I adopted my dog from a local animal shelter, and you would like him, he is a sled dog.

He did have abandonment issues, but dogs are more resilient than humans in that way, and 10 years later, he seems to be doing well.

If I EVER were to adopt, and never say never, I would adopt probably a teenager, because I would want to make sure being adopted was something they wanted to have happen to them, and I would want them to keep their original name, or if they had bad memories of it, choose their own name, I would want them to keep family ties if it was possible, I would want them to retain their identity and predilictions, for me personally, I cannot fathom loving an adopted child as much as I love my bio, but I can imagine loving an adopted child very much.

But I would have to love that individual for it to work for me, I would have to have them be them, and me still be me.  I would have to not pretend that they were as if, but good enough just how they were.

And I would call myself their adoptress at every chance I get, because that word cracks me up, it is so kind of s**y.

I guess, I would think of myself more as a loving sponsor than a natural mother.

I do like kids, all ages, my big heat-centered concern is kids aging out of foster-care.  At this point all I give is a little bit of money.  Maybe someday I will be able to give more.

  2. I know, why dont they just get a puppy?  No reunions!  hahahaha

  3. LOL!! Yeah 2 points!!

ETA: We did adopt a puppy, but the puppy didn't work so well with trick-or-treating, Easter egg hunts, family vacations and was never interested in bed time stories. Sigh, guess we'll just have to stick to our adoption wishes.

Sorry that you have such issues that you can't find anywhere else to vent but on the internet.

Have you tried 'adopting' a publisher? I'll bet you could write a book with all that pent up passion!

  4. WOW people need to learn how to read. She's asking us if we've ever been asked that..... She's not the one saying it! Dauh

  5. no

  6. wow thats a pretty messed up thing to say..

  7. no, you're the first one to compare a child to a dog.

    what is wrong with you?

what's your question, is there any point to it?  or are you just trying to anger people?  the hint of your question that adopting a child could even be compared to a pet is just sick.

has anyone ever asked you, why hasn't someone tied you to a tree in their front yard yet?

    that's what i'm wondering.

ETA:  that's sad that anger is your motivation for living and trying to make others angry.  have you sought help for this?

personally i would not adopt a puppy or any pet to someone so angry.  i wouldn't suggest you adopt a puppy, they take love, patience and tolerance.  on here you don't seem to have that.

  8. Nope, this is a first.

However, I do know that they say raising a pet is good practice before actually having kids of your own...

Since adopting sounds so terrible you might as well tell them, sure good idea...you can yell at your dog & it will still love you but unfortunately you don't get that same 'unconditional' love from an adoptee because it's something you EARN not deserve.

  9. I think people often say this to people considering buying a puppy from a breeder, when there are so many puppies who really need a home, who are living in shelters. So I imagine if an AP is looking to buy a puppy from a breeder, they may hear this from concerned citizens.

  10. How stupid! You can not compare a child to an animal. Go get a life.

  11. Compare?

Lol...  can't you adopt a kid like a puppy?

Animals not adopted get killed.. (put to sleep)

Kids who don't get adopted get turfed out on their ***.. (Aged out) and stuffed in shelters and the streets some times they don't even wait till they are 18... I have talked to 16 year old shoved into shelters by Children's aid society in Ottawa.

The difference is? What? again... all their is, is comparisons so many it should make you sick.....

  12. ohh boy ROFLMAO .. trolling again?"

  13. No, but I hate it when people refer to "adopting" their animals. Give me a break. It costs $50 at the Humane Society and it's an ANIMAL. No matter how much a person loves a pet, it is NOT the same as loving and raising a child. I really, really hate that term when it is used in reference to animals.

  14. I have heard people say that sort of thing before.  I've heard people say some odd things to AP's, PAP's, adoptees and first parents, though.

  15. Why dont YOU go adopt a puppy?  It may give you something else to do other than harass people who wish to adopt children!  Just because YOU believe in a rosy world where every child can be raised by a family member doesnt actually mean that your living in reality, youre not.  Fact is, theres a whole pile of adoptees out there who are perfectly happy to be adopted, who have met their bio families and worked out how lucky they are not to have been raised in that mess - I would rather shoot myself than have to regard myself as one of them!!  My bio family and I have NOTHING in common other than genetics.  If YOURE unhappy with YOUR situation, that is something for you to work out with your therapist.

  16. Can't say that they have.

  17. Aahhh....  no.....  but adoptive parents get asked many ignorant questions just like that all the time.
