Question:

Adoxa and Sun exposure?

To those who have experience with Adoxa Doxycycline, an antibiotic that helps control acne.

This past weekend I was out in the sun a lot, having taken one Adoxa capsule after a while (just got the prescription filled after a few weeks of not being on it). In the path of a few days, my face looks very pinkish with a brand new breakout coming in. Could my sudden breakout be caused by Adoxa's sun sensitivity? Has exposure to the sun caused breakouts when on Adoxa in your experience?

  1. Adoxa does make you a tad bid more sensitive to the sun, so make sure you apply plenty of sunscreen. Since you have been off Adoxa for a few week you may break out for that reason alone. Your body probably already processed all the antibiotics out of your system and basically that is why you are breaking out.

  2. all doxycyclines (including adoxa) have the potential for exaggerated sunburn.  burns irritate your skin & could possibly cause a break out.  if you are in the sun alot or on occasion, you might ask your doctor to switch you to minocycline which has <1% chance of photosensitivity.

    good luck!
