http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 opening batsman, Adrian Barath, has conceded that his side will need to step up if they are to salvage some pride from the ongoing Test series against hosts England.
It has been another uphill struggle for the tourists, which currently trail the hosts by an unassailable 2-0 margin. Talks have already begun of a possible whitewash, and while few could argue about such outcome considering the local team’s dominance on their home soil, Barath is keen to avoid such fate but admitted that his players will need to play with a mindset which ensures consistency throughout the five days.
Such observations have already been voiced by head coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ottis-Delroy-Gibson-c80358, who claimed that his side has been good, but in patches. While many have praised the Windies for their fighting spirit, they still have little to show for their endeavours.
They began the year with a battling performance against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 on their own back yard, managing draws in the limited-over versions. They started the subsequent Test series brightly but always fell short due to poor showings in a session or two - ultimately costing them victory.
Such incidences were again evident against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, where victory eluded the tourists owing to some indifferent sessions in both the opening games of the series. At Lord’s, the Windies had set up a reasonable target of 191 and had reduced the hosts to 57 for 4. However, their inability to grind out results eventually paved away for an easy win for the English team.
The Trent Bridge clash was up for grabs but the Windies faltered badly in their second innings, leaving them with nothing to show for their endeavours. Recognizing such moments, Barath feels that it’s high time for his teammates to work on their consistency and get a morale- boosting win in the third Test, starting from June 7.
“Sometimes we dominate the game for three days, but then we mess up in one session. That's the mindset we're working upon. That is what Test cricket is all about. It's not a couple of hours; it's over the course of five days. You have to be on the money every day, every hour, every over,” said Barath.
“There is a lot at stake. The pride of West Indies' cricket has been showing some signs of improvement for the last couple of months. It's about getting a Test win.”
